Thanks, Ma! And happy Mother's Day! Rabbits, hares, and pikas are not rodents, actually—they're lagomorphs, a different order. (Lagomorph, boringly, means "hare-shape.") But I just read in Walker's Mammals of the World that the lagomorphs used to be considered rodents, so lots of scientists have agreed with you, and you may still be right.
I'm glad you didn't hate rodents that much when we had 7 tiny pink-eraser baby hamsters.
Take These Mammals Home With You! Original Art from the Daily Mammal
Welcome to The Daily Mammal!
One of my long-term goals is to draw every kind of mammal on earth. So here goes, a mammal a day. Since there are about 5,000 named mammal species, give or take, it should take me about 14 years to meet this goal. That's not so bad! Stick around and watch!
Periodically, I'll update this spreadsheet—containing, basically, every mammal species alive—to show the ones I've drawn and when. Download the mammal spreadsheet here. Last update: June 3, 2008.
